Why Having Genuine Planned Routines are so Important
Routines are a form we habit we develop to be repeatable. Developing healthy routines lead to healthy habits thus helping us be productive.
Routines are a form we habit we develop to be repeatable.
Most often, a weekday is repeatable. Be it to work in the morning or on a school day week. Or what have you?
Whether we like it or not, every person has a routine they follow most days of the week. For good or bad, we all have them.
Some of our routines help us maintain a sense of reputation. Some are responses to times when we have no choice but to get up early. For example, waking up at four and being on time for the first formation (shout out to my fellow military veterans).
What helps us be productive are the healthy routines and, thus, healthy habits we all try to follow.
Practicing the Good Routines
A routine can be putting the dishes away every morning.
Make coffee every morning.
Write an entry in your journal.
Walking the dog in the morning.
Practices form out of necessity and then become habits.
Looking back at our days, we often realize we have excellent and bad routines.
Bad Routines
I sometimes reflect on the routines I develop, which hinder my productivity.
Sometimes I hit the snooze more often than I would like to admit. Sometimes, I eat unhealthy food when I should stick to my healthy diet and pay for it by upsetting my stomach. Sometimes I’ll push through a day, not giving myself any breaks to see everything through. I then find myself burned out and unmotivated.
Those are the kinds of routines I try to address by re-evaluating what I am doing. I try to figure out how to prevent myself from falling into a trap.
Discipline is Key
Being disciplined is an essential aspect of having healthy routines. We have to say “no” to the bad habits which are easy to commit.
Routines are simple things. They are not complex. They are the habits we form to live more productive lives. To do more with less time. And to afford ourselves the time to relax. Time to spend with family and friends. Time to experience life and fall into the trap of working.
Remember to Take Pride in Yourself
We must take pride in our work. Finding time for other things is crucial, such as relaxing with your iPad and reading the news while sipping your coffee. Enjoy a lovely brunch from time to time.
Routines are important because they help us enjoy life when practices are unnecessary. The more we improve our habits, the more time we have to experience moments outside those routines. Life is too short not to have time to enjoy it.
